What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Look at that damn phone. It’s bad, I know.
Have you ever felt genuine fulfillment? When?
I don’t think so, but I’ve come close and will definitely get there someday.
What is your most repetitive, negative thought?
I’m behind in life and have achieved nothing. Especially compared to my peers.
What is your most repetitive, positive thought?
My empathy and sensitivity are gifts, even when they don’t feel like it.
What is one thing that surprised you about adulthood?
How non-linear most people’s paths actually are. As a bonus, free time feels nearly unattainable. I kind of have to fight for it!
What are three things you want to put every woman onto?
KISS French tip press on nails and No Lift Nails primer. Can’t tell them from acrylics. Bonus tip- never underestimate the sex appeal of a good pedicure.
Jane the Virgin. My comfort show that I wish all women would watch.
A sanity walk followed by journaling. Almost every evening, I take a brisk, hour-long solo walk while listening to music (or nothing at all), and then I journal afterward. It sustains me.
Rank the following from most to least important:
money, food, sex, love, and laughter (feel free to explain or don’t).
Someday, I will rank it last, but money. (I don’t want it to be, but that’s my biggest dictator these days.) Love, laughter, sex, food.
How has your relationship with your parents/ guardians changed in adulthood?
We are more tolerant of each other. There’s a newfound mutual understanding between us. We love harder. I depend on them in completely different ways in adulthood.
When do you feel most like yourself?
When I am with my sisters, laughing about things that nobody else would understand, or cheering my brothers on at a football game.
What is the best compliment someone has ever given you?
As a words-of-affirmation woman, this was SUCH a hard question to answer. My dear friend once told me that she admires how much I care for my family and others and that when she met me, she knew that I would make her a better person. That is probably not verbatim (recounting emotional situations is not my forte). This one had me bawling.
How do you feel about falling in love?
Thrilled. Apprehensive. Jaded.
What is one thing you’re sick of hearing?
“You have time.”
How often do you feel alone?
Not very often, thankfully. I have good people in my corner.
What is one thing you hope everyone experiences in their lifetime?
Traveling to and immersing themselves in a place that is nothing like their home, whether that is out of the country or not.
What is one thing you hope no one has to experience in their lifetime?
Tragic loss of someone close. Addiction is a close second.
What is the best decision you’ve ever made?
Seeking (and finding!) independence.
When do you feel most at ease?
When I am spending carefree time with friends who genuinely care about me and make me laugh.
What does having a successful life mean to you?
Experiencing a day-to-day life out of survival mode that isn’t dictated by what urgent need is next to be met at my expense. A steady flow of new opportunities and a strong bond with my family, chosen and blood.
How often do you think about your body?
I realize as I type this that this is the first time it’s ever come out of my mind in front of me- but it occupies an alarming portion of my thoughts, and it’s mostly critical.
When do you ask for help?
When I’m certain that a need I have can’t be met on my own, especially in a timely manner.
What is something you feel strongly about?
Seeking self-improvement is a courageous act of self-love. On that note - everyone should give therapy a go, if given the opportunity. (It is a privilege.)
BONUS: Tell me something good.
