What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Brush my teeth, take my meds, and drink a full bottle of water. Then I make breakfast and do all the NYT games in this order: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Mini
Have you ever felt genuine fulfillment? When?
Maybe some recency bias, but at my wedding! When I saw my family and friends from each chapter of my life come together, I felt like all the ups and downs that brought me there were worth it. I also saw the vision I built piece by piece come together in such a beautiful, perfect way.
What is your most repetitive, negative thought?
The already unthinkable amount of human suffering in the world will only increase, and we’ll see the end of civilization as we know it in our lifetime.
What is your most repetitive, positive thought?
I am making a positive impact on my small corner of the world. Every chance for love, grace, friendship, kindness, or progress matters. The little things matter.
What is one thing that surprised you about adulthood?
How quickly the years pass. As a child, I heard adults talking about how “time flies,” but it surprised me when I really started feeling that way.
What are three things you want to put every woman onto?
Reading for pleasure.
At-home yoga/pilates.
Internal Family Systems therapy.
Rank the following from most to least important:
money, food, sex, love, and laughter (feel free to explain or don’t).
Love
Laughter
Food
Sex
Money
How has your relationship with your parents/ guardians changed in adulthood?
I love and appreciate them more. For a while, I took for granted the life and love they gave me. I resented them for their mistakes and differences in opinion. I’m learning they’re just people and really are trying their best. While we still disagree often, we communicate better, and I have more empathy for their point of view.
When do you feel most like yourself?
At home with my husband. He loves every side of me and I can fully let my guard down with him.
What is the best compliment someone has ever given you?
When we first started dating, my now-husband said, “You’re pretty neat”. I loved that because it felt more honest than “sweet” or “hot.” It’s a nice change for my quirks to be celebrated.
How do you feel about falling in love?
Obsessed. I’m a bit codependent and have a history of falling too hard, too fast, but real, true love is the best feeling we get.
What is one thing you’re sick of hearing?
Anything related to “wokeness” or “cancel culture.” Any time there’s an opportunity for more respect and inclusivity of a marginalized group we should take it. Punching down isn’t funny.
How often do you feel alone?
About once a month in my luteal phase. I get sooo moody.
What is one thing you hope everyone experiences in their lifetime?
Genuine female friendship. Feeling like someone has your back, wants you, and chooses you.
What is one thing you hope no one has to experience in their lifetime?
Hopelessness.
What is the best decision you’ve ever made?
Moving across the country and allowing myself to grow and change.
When do you feel most at ease?
Friday night when the work week is done, preferably with a margarita in hand.
What does having a successful life mean to you?
Loving those around me well. I hope that means children one day, but however my family looks, I want them to be happy and well-loved.
How often do you think about your body?
Everyday.
When do you ask for help?
With small things, as often as needed. With big things, rarely. I don’t like feeling needy or burdensome. It’s a work in progress.
What is something you feel strongly about?
Communication is a fundamental human right, and everyone deserves their voice to be heard.
BONUS: Tell me something good.
My therapist told me she has a lot of hope in Gen Z as a generation might be able to make some real change.
