How are you, really?
I’m on the postpartum hormonal rollercoaster of rage, regret & rejoicing. Then there is the whole fear spiral of being a woman, having daughters, & being Jewish. Then there is my immense sorrow for all people suffering on a global scale. Then I have moments of clarity and love and joy in being a mom while simultaneously feeling extremely lonely. And then I have my music and my purpose to create which grounds me.
What is the greatest change you’ve made this year?
Had a 2nd baby.
What is something you hope never changes?
The sparkle in my children’s eyes that brims with hope.
When do you feel most capable?
When I am empowering others, or when I am holding my children.
How do you nurture yourself?
I make music, cook meals, burn some sage, talk to my girlfriends, do yoga, drink wine, microdose.
How do you nurture others?
I encourage my friends come to my house for adult sleepovers in the woods, away from the city, so they can ground themselves and have space and room to breathe
Is there anything you wish you had said but didn’t?
I wish I told my ex that I forgave him before he took his life. I wish I had just been there for him.
What is something that turns you on?
My husband, Adam Brody or any kind eyed curly haired NJB.
What is something that turns you off?
MAGAts.
When was the last time you walked away from something that no longer served you?
I’m in the process of doing that now with some new emotional behavioral patterns that have come with postpartum, like experiencing sudden and intense anger, and taking it out on my partner.
What is one risk you took that resulted in reward?
Sleeping with my husband the night I met him.
When do you feel most overwhelmed?
When it's time to pay off my monthly credit card bill.
How do you move forward?
I continue to create, advocate and build community.
What is something that will always make you laugh?
Dad jokes, made by my husband. I laugh on the inside.
What is something that will always make you cry?
People who are less fortunate, especially the homeless, especially the homeless who have children with them.
Have you ever been betrayed?
Yes. Fuck that piece of shit. He’s a little bitch.
What is your greatest temptation?
Carbohydrates and staying up too late.
What is one thing you feel is missing from your current life?
I really miss my grandfather. I wish he got to meet my daughters.
What is one thing you can’t get enough of?
Back rubs
BONUS: Tell me something good.
I have hope in good people who see the nuance of life’s complexities while also staying true to their purpose of wanting a more healed and peaceful world. I am one of them. I try to surround myself with them. I am raising my children to be them.
