What is the most important part of your daily routine?
I love the moments when I get to read, whether it’s binging 100+ pages before going to bed or sneaking in a chapter during a lull in my day.
What is your current happiness most dependent on?
My friendships. This current phase of life, post-grad, is so different for everyone in my circle. With my friends scattered all over the country and on vastly different paths from academic to professional, being able to foster these connections and stay in the loop is vital to me.
What do you wish you were less reliant on?
My parents. They are very loving and supportive and have given me an amazing life. The thing is, I wish to be more independent, but getting a job straight out of undergrad that checks most of my boxes (salary, work-life balance, growth opportunities, location, etc.) is not realistic in the current job market, and I came to terms to staying in school to become more of an asset—which is possible due to my parents' unwavering support. I just envisioned I’d be on my own by now.
When do you question yourself?
At any point, I start comparing myself to others. Whether it’s a celebrity, my best friend, or a random peer in my class, I question if I am on the right track and if “my timeline” might be off.
What is something that has positively impacted how you perceive your self-worth?
I finally got serious about my overall health. I still have a ways to go and have a rather rough relationship with food and the scale, but I'm very proud of what I have achieved so far and of my consistency with my food and exercise habits.
What is something you have forgiven yourself for?
Losing myself in my academics in my junior year of high school. It was over 6 years ago, but it was definitely a dark time that I could not understand what I now know was a depressive episode that reflected onto my grades in such a crucial time leading up to college applications.
What is something you have forgiven someone else for?
Any silly fallout I had during my teen years. As I’ve matured and experienced many things, I’ve chalked them up as teenage angst looking back.
How do you ground/center yourself?
Talking it out—just telling my bestie or my mom, even if it’s a one-sided voice note—helps me organize my thoughts and understand how to proceed.
What is one thing that helped you through your most difficult time?
Reading allows me to escape, become different characters, and live many different lives, which allows me to stay grounded during tough times.
Have you ever felt like the best version of yourself? When?
I would say, this point in my life is the best I’ve ever felt. I feel like I’m on the right path career-wise; it’s the best I’ve felt in my own skin, and I am so happy with my friendships.
What is something you fundamentally disagree with?
Men having an opinion (a very loud one, at that) over women’s issues, especially our bodies.
What is something you know for sure?
Everything happens for a reason. I know that as long as I actively work toward my goals and what I want, things will work out as they are supposed to.
What are three of your non-negotiables in romantic relationships?
1. Loyalty
2. Same political values
3. Family-oriented
When do you feel most comfortable in your own skin?
When I go all out when getting ready. I really enjoy the process of doing my hair and makeup and picking out an outfit while listening to music, and when I’m done, I feel like a million bucks, not just because of the actual products or garments but also because of how therapeutic the process is to me.
Have you ever been in awe of something/someone? When?
Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour. How does she do it? Time and time again and everything else in between!
What is the best (physical/material) gift you have ever received?
A friend once gave me a book embosser that says it’s “From my name’s library,” and it was just the most thoughtful gift, knowing reading is something I spend a lot of my time doing while being customized to me.
What is one thing you wish you had said ‘yes’ to in the past?
Concerts by myself. There have been a few artists here and there that have come to my city, and out of fear of going on my own, I don’t even bother and come to regret not having gone.
What is one thing you will always say ‘no’ to in the future?
Putting in effort into my people whom I am an afterthought. I won’t bother investing my time and risking rejection over someone who is not concerned about me.
What do you believe is your most attractive quality?
My mind and heart. Luckily, my experiences have presented me with so many different points of view that I absorb and open myself up to different perspectives, feeding my never-ending curiosity.
What/who do you want to be when you grow up?
Professionally, (at the moment) I am a UX/UI designer, and I will also eventually go into teaching!
Personally, I want to be a wife and a mom, have a family of my own, and have a solid friend group.
