What is the most important part of your daily routine?
Having a shower as soon as I wake up to positively kick start my day.
What is your current happiness most dependent on?
Having a healthy and happy family, with no drama!
What do you wish you were less reliant on?
Money and Technology.
When do you question yourself?
When my opinions differ too greatly from those of the majority.
What is something that has positively impacted how you perceive your self-worth?
Doing random good deeds anonymously without expectation of reciprocation.
What is something you have forgiven yourself for?
Being way too hard on myself in my earlier years.
What is something you have forgiven someone else for?
Lying to me to protect me.
How do you ground/center yourself?
Reminding myself that absolutely nothing in this life is forever. Bad times come to an end and so do good times. Sunshine always follows rain.
What is one thing that helped you through your most difficult time?
Having the feeling that I am never alone, although I like being physically alone.
Have you ever felt like the best version of yourself? When?
When I finished writing the book I never planned to publish, it was more of my therapy!
What is something you fundamentally disagree with?
Capital punishment, laws allowing g*n ownership, segregation, turning a blind eye when someone is in trouble, and they need you.
What is something you know for sure?
That God will not give me anything I can’t handle. Two incidents in my life have proved this, and have only made me stronger (sounds a cliché, but true).
What are three of your non-negotiables in romantic relationships?
1. Honesty & Trust
2. Acceptance of quirky habits
3. Mutual love and respect
When do you feel most comfortable in your own skin?
When I am with my family and when I am surrounded by like-minded people. When I am around humble people who I can have a deep conversation with, people who do not need much materialistically but who enjoy the things you can’t buy, and who can laugh at themselves.
Have you ever been in awe of something/someone? When?
When I hit financially hard times in my 20s, a colleague (not even a close friend) offered to pay for a week's rent so I could take a week off temporary work and find a permanent job. We shook hands, and I said that I would pay him back with my first paycheck in my new job. He didn’t accept it when I landed a permanent job. It offended me greatly that he went back on his word, but instead, he asked me to ‘pay it forward’ to another in financial need. It took me 23 years to find the right person, but I asked them to do the same – to pay it forward. I’ll never forget my angelic colleague. Ever.
What is the best (physical/material) gift you have ever received?
A warm winter coat bought for me by a friend of my mum. I needed that coat, but we had little money at the time.
What is one thing you wish you had said ‘yes’ to in the past?
Honestly, I have said yes to every opportunity. Some things didn’t work out, but I never regretted a single thing. It might have worked out…
What is one thing you will always say ‘no’ to in the future?
Giving in to bullies.
What do you believe is your most attractive quality?
Trying to be kind to strangers and staying humble.
What/who do you want to be when you grow up?
I’m 57 years young (!), but when I finally ‘grow up’, I want to be the author of a book I’m prepared to publish!
BONUS: Tell me something good.
I don’t believe in coincidence. I think everything that happens to do is meant to happen, even the bad stuff. That teaches you so much. When things go your way, appreciate them with all your heart, but remember to stay humble. When things don’t go your way, don’t berate yourself; instead, keep walking ahead through the fire; otherwise, the lesson will come back and revisit you in the future until your fear of it is gone.
