#171. bubble baths, becoming wise & hope for our future world

Age: 40

Relationship Status: Single

Occupation: Middle School Teacher

Income: $85,000

Astrological Sign: Libra Sun, Gemini Moon, Cancer Rising

What is your first thought every morning?

No matter my mood, I say out loud “Dear Universe, thank you for another day.” I like to start my day with gratitude and set the tone for the day. I wake up each day with the ability to breathe, see, hear, walk, talk, and experience life and a new beginning. I know my day will have both positive and negative, but when I start my day with gratitude, I am more likely to focus on the good that happens throughout the day.

What is something you do solely for you?

Bubble baths! They bring me so much peace and comfort. I also practice transcendental meditation while in the water.

What is something you dread?

My mother has had Frontotemporal Dementia since her 30s. She is now 75 - it is at its worst, and I may lose her any day. I dread the 50% chance of getting it. I am finally in a place where I truly love who I am and I would hate to lose my cognitive abilities, sense of identity, empathy, and self-awareness. I see how my dad takes care of her every day, and I would also hate to put that burden on someone else.

What is something you are looking forward to?

I just turned 40, I am so excited to see what this decade brings. I love becoming more wise and grateful. I become more comfortable with who I am each year, and I can only imagine my 40s will deliver even more confidence through many new experiences and interactions.

When do you feel most accomplished?

I have been teaching middle school social studies for 18 years, when I know I have made an impact on at least one child, I feel like most accomplished. I have taught thousands of students, and I hope they recognize their ability to impact the world positively and I hope that I am shaping a future generation of humans that makes this world a better place.

What is something you regret investing in financially?

NA

What is something you regret investing in emotionally?

I have no regrets for any of my emotional investments. I am a very emotional and sensitive soul, which is both a blessing and a curse. Every moment, experience, positive or negative, I have invested in with all my emotions and has brought me to this very moment. They have taught me, challenged me, humbled me, and have made me the best version of myself.

What are three things you think are absolutely worth the investment?

(financially, emotionally, or time/energy-wise)

  1. Education, starting my 2nd masters soon!

  2. Peace of mind, absolutely put your peace on a pedestal.

  3. People who add value to your life. Be very selective of who gets your energy and access to you.

When do you feel most creative?

When I create playlists! I spend hours curating playlists for a mood, holiday, event, etc. I sometimes think if I weren’t a teacher I would be a DJ! It gets my creative juices flowing and makes me so happy.

How often do you compare yourself to others? When?

I am guilty of comparing my body to other women at the gym, I get in my head. I can snap out of it easily, but it is something I am working on. I like to remind myself that I have a healthy body that allows me workout, and I try not worry about the superficial aesthetics.

What is one thing you’d like to thank your past self for?

Resilience: I have OCD, and in my 20s to mid-30s it was at its worst. I was miserable every day and severely mentally exhausted. At one point in my 20’s I wanted to end my life and was hospitalized. With patience, a great support system, the right doctors, hope, resilience, and hard work, I am officially considered recovered from OCD as of 3 years ago. It has been one heck of a journey, but I am so proud of my younger self. She persisted and grew her wings.

What is one thing you believe about your future self?

That peace will always be my first priority, as someone who worked so hard to attain peace through mental health challenges, abusive relationships, etc. I never take moments of peace for granted. Peace is a privilege and I intend to always prioritize it.

What is one thing you learned in childhood that you have now had to unlearn in adulthood?

What feels right to you, does not have to make sense to others.

Have you ever felt pure joy? When?

Anytime I attend a concert I can feel the collective positive energy and the joy that surrounds me. As an empath I can truly feel the positive energy circulating a venue and raising the vibration of a space. Music is truly a universal language and pure joy is guaranteed for me when I attend concerts.

What is something that would feel really good to get off your chest?

I sometimes eat dinner in my car because I cannot handle my chihuahua staring at me. I want to eat in peace!

When do you feel most in your feminine energy?

Honestly, there are so many examples I could give, but I would have to say when I get compliments. I used to think it was a craving for validation, now I see it as a desire for appreciation of the effort I put into little things. These compliments can vary from someone telling me they love my energy, to people telling me I smell good, or they love the way I decorate my house. I put a lot of effort into uplifting others, creating comfortable environments, smelling like a vanilla cupcake, and so much more! If you notice it, I feel like a powerful and beautiful woman.

What is one interaction that changed your life?

I have been in 7 serious relationships, but I have only fallen in love once. I feel so grateful to have experienced this feeling at least once in my life. We went our separate ways due to future goals not aligning.

What is something you want to give up?

Overthinking, I love how curious of a person I am, must be my gemini moon, but it can be exhausting.

What do you believe is a universal truth?

Happiness comes and goes, but it always comes back.

BONUS: Tell me something good.

As a veteran teacher, based on many positive student interactions, I promise there is hope for the future of our world.
