What is your first thought every morning?
Unfortunately, it’s probably about work. I’m guilty of checking my phone right when I wake up, so I’m often thinking about what I have to do that day.
What is something you do solely for you?
I wish I had a good answer to this question, but having something I do regularly just for ‘me’ is more of an aspiration right now between my job and wedding planning. If I could, I think it would just be spending quality alone time with myself. Probably with some wine and takeout.
What is something you dread?
Having to make life-altering decisions. I always worry about what will happen if I make the wrong choice. One that keeps me up at night is whether to have kids or not – how am I supposed to decide something that will change my life forever?
What is something you are looking forward to?
Financial freedom and experiencing life with my partner. I’m hopeful and excited to get to a point in our lives where we can do things for ourselves and for others without having to worry about money.
When do you feel most accomplished?
On a daily basis, I feel pretty accomplished when I wake up early, work out, and knock out my to-do list.
What is something you regret investing in financially?
For me, it’s more what I regret not financially investing in: my future
I made a lot of bad financial decisions in my early 20s, with overspending on things I didn’t need. Now that I’m getting married and having money conversations with my partner, I’ve realized I should have put a little more effort into saving money for my future (instead of racking up credit card bills)
What is something you regret investing in emotionally?
When I was younger, I put way too much time and energy into the wrong people—friends and boyfriends. I feel like I don’t have many close relationships left from earlier times in my life, and maybe that’s because I didn’t invest in the right ones.
What are three things you think are absolutely worth the investment?
(financially, emotionally, or time/energy-wise)
Good friendships. As you get older, it gets harder to meet people and form genuine connections, so it’s important to really invest in the people you have in your life. Quality over quantity!
Exercise & eating foods that fuel your body
Skincare (visit the derm, use high-quality products, facials, sunscreen!)
When do you feel most creative?
When I’m traveling or experiencing other cultures, even though I work in a ‘creative’ industry, I find that I draw much more creative inspiration from my experiences and the world around me.
How often do you compare yourself to others? When?
As much as I wish I could say never, the truth is I do it every day, whether it’s comparing my professional progress to a colleague or my own happiness to people on the internet. I think it’s hard not to when social media is just one big highlight reel. I truly believe “comparison is the thief of joy,” so I’m actively working on this.
What is one thing you’d like to thank your past self for?
Being fearless. I used to say yes to trying or doing almost anything. As I get older, I’m more inclined to stick to what I know, but I will always have those life experiences to look back on.
What is one thing you believe about your future self?
I’m going to be okay. I definitely don’t have my life figured out right now, but things have always proven to work themselves out exactly how they’re supposed to. I’m not sure where I’ll be in 5 or 10 years, but I know I will make the most out of any situation.
What is one thing you learned in childhood that you have now had to unlearn in adulthood?
That being vulnerable and showing emotion is part of the human experience. I didn’t grow up in a very affectionate household, so we weren’t really taught how to express our feelings in a healthy way. In relationships, I’ve had to learn that effective communication is built on vulnerability and honesty. No one wins when you bottle everything up.
Have you ever felt pure joy? When?
I would say when I’m on the water. I grew up on the coast and find the ocean very peaceful; it’s one of the few places where I can tune out the rest of the world. I do find joy in my everyday life, but nothing beats that.
What is something that would feel really good to get off your chest?
I’m excited to marry my fiancé, but sometimes I feel like I’m not ready to be a wife. Both our parents had rocky marriages, so it’s hard not to worry that we’ll become them.
When do you feel most in your feminine energy?
Seeing myself or other women succeed professionally. Despite gender gaps, we continue to prove that we are smart, strong, worthy, and have a place in the workplace. It makes me proud to be a woman.
What is one interaction that changed your life?
I don’t think I have had an ‘aha’ moment or interaction that changed me (yet), but maybe meeting my fiancé, because he really has made my world better.
What is something you want to give up?
Oversleeping/not having a strict morning routine. I typically wake up shortly before I have to start working, which really isn’t great for my mental health.
What is something you want to take up?
Any hobby – maybe a sport or photography. I want to find something outside of work and my relationships that brings me fulfillment.
What do you believe is a universal truth?
Karma is real. We get out of life what we put into it.
BONUS: Tell me something good.
I have a very elderly neighbor who lives alone and recently underwent a major hip surgery. Our entire apartment floor got together to take shifts checking on her and bringing our pets over for emotional support.
