What is your first thought every morning?
Please let it not be 2:00 am
What is something you do solely for you?
Fly first class. It’s such an indefensible (to me) luxury; but I do it anyway.
What is something you dread?
Dread is a funny thing; an elusive nemesis that tends to visit me at 2:00 am. And I’m not even sure why. (See above.)
What is something you are looking forward to?
Spending time with my children and grandchildren.
When do you feel most accomplished?
When I actually finish what I promised myself I would get done; even if it’s household chores.
What is something you regret investing in financially?
Most of the stuff in my closet.
What is something you regret investing in emotionally?
I had my heart broken at 19. It so affected me that these 40 years later, I don’t know that I’ve ever been in love since; not even in my marriage. I truly believe that “being in love” is a luxury meant for other people.
What are three things you think are absolutely worth the investment?
(financially, emotionally, or time/energy-wise)
That one thing you are most passionate about; the thing that feeds your soul; even if it’s not your vocation but your avocation.
Your best girlfriends. They will keep you sane and grounded.
Your children (if you have them.) You end up foisting them onto society, after all.
When do you feel most creative?
When I’m performing in the theater - a side gig of mine.
How often do you compare yourself to others? When?
Oh, I gave that up a long time ago.
What is one thing you’d like to thank your past self for?
For embracing childhood with a full heart
What is one thing you believe about your future self?
That I’ll be o.k. I’ll probably be alone, but I’ll be o.k.
What is one thing you learned in childhood that you have now had to unlearn in adulthood?
That not everyone embraces life with joy and curiosity and as such they behave accordingly. It was a surprising and often painful thing to learn.
Have you ever felt pure joy? When?
Yes, when I danced. I used to perform with a small dance company on the east coast.
What is something that would feel really good to get off your chest?
To tell my father how I really feel about his treatment of me.
When do you feel most in your feminine energy?
Maybe when I was pregnant with my three children; but, like being in love, being in my feminine energy is a luxury not often afforded me.
What is one interaction that changed your life?
During my college years in the theater, in an emergency situation, everyone looked to me for what to do next. I knew at that moment that I was really good at what I was doing. And while I did not end up in professional theater, the skill itself has served me well in all aspects of my life.
What is something you want to give up?
My 2:00 am visitor.
What is something you want to take up?
More travel to far away places.
What do you believe is a universal truth?
That most people are genuinely good human beings.
