What is your first thought every morning?

Ten more minutes.

What is something you do solely for you?

Reading and yoga.

I’ve been a lifelong reader, and it’s good for the soul. Reading makes you a more well-rounded and empathetic person. So many books have made me laugh, cry, and think differently about things. Especially in times like these, reading can be a powerful, radical act. Make sure you read every book they are trying to ban.

I’ve also been much more into yoga over the last year, and I’ve never felt more connected to my body. I am horrible at it, and it’s humbling, but it feels so good.

What is something you dread?

The next 4 years.

What is something you are looking forward to?

Winter. I want to have an excuse to not leave my apartment after an insane few months.

When do you feel most accomplished?

When my friends come to visit me and I get to experience my life in my city with them. I love merging my old life with my new.

What is something you regret investing in financially?

Just so many impulse, stupid purchases that I couldn’t afford right after college. I got myself into credit card debt, and I have nothing to show for it. It was never one big purchase, but so many little ones that added up quickly.

What is something you regret investing in emotionally?

My obsession with wanting everyone to like me, even if I didn’t really like them that much.

What are three things you think are absolutely worth the investment?

(financially, emotionally, or time/energy-wise)

  1. Obviously, your friends. Especially if you are lucky enough to have old friends. They will carry you through anything. Put in the work to celebrate and love them. Don’t cancel your plans, stop being late and show up for them.

  2. Building great professional relationships and friendships in the workplace. Some of my previous and current coworkers are genuinely my great friends and will always be in my life, even though we have all moved on to different companies. They have taught me so much professionally and personally and make being at work fun. Let your walls down.

  3. Your space. Do whatever you possibly can to have a place that you enjoy going home to.

When do you feel most creative?

When I am at a thrift/vintage store. And not a curated, expensive one. A middle-of-nowhere Goodwill or Salvation Army is my personal preference. I love being able to search through all of the racks, find a piece, and see a vision for it. I love thinking about all of the other lives the piece of clothing experienced before it came to me. I recently learned how to sew to be able to customize even more, and I am excited to learn more and explore that.

How often do you compare yourself to others? When?

All the time. Especially when I think someone is “cooler” than I am. I really compare myself to the people who are so themselves and are clearly confident in their decisions and movements. The people who seem so at ease without trying. I'm really trying not to compare and just be.

What is one thing you’d like to thank your past self for?

For taking leaps; knowing that a lot of situations I was in were temporary, and always knowing I would get myself out of them. And then taking action to do it.

What is one thing you believe about your future self?

I’ll be so happy with the life I’ve created for myself – whatever that future may be.

What is one thing you learned in childhood that you have now had to unlearn in adulthood?

What love looks like.

Have you ever felt pure joy? When?

All the time. When I’m laughing with my friends. When I’m walking around my neighborhood, listening to music by myself. When I am with my nieces and nephews and they say something ridiculous. When I got to hold one of my best friend’s babies for the first time. When my boyfriend and I are cooking dinner together and laughing. Seeing my friends deeply in love with great partners. When I have a great meal. When I’m at a concert. I feel pure joy so often and I feel so lucky for that.

What is something that would feel really good to get off your chest?

I really hate my family, and I’m coming to terms with that.

When do you feel most in your feminine energy?

When I’m laughing or crying with my girlfriends. There is nothing more beautiful than connection between women.

What is one interaction that changed your life?

Messaging my now wonderful, loving, perfect boyfriend back on Hinge (after ignoring him for days).

What is something you want to give up?

Hangovers.

What is something you want to take up?

Running. But I hate it so much.

What do you believe is a universal truth?

Most people are good. It’s really, really hard to see that right now. But I have to keep reminding myself.
