#86. asking questions, falling in love & losing a fur baby

Age: 25

Relationship Status: In a Relationship

Occupation: Stage Manager

Income: Varies but enough to pay rent, have savings, and still have some left over.

Astrological Sign: Leo Sun, Leo Moon, Cancer Rising (had to pull my Co-Star out for this one)

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I check my phone. I usually press snooze on my alarm a few times. Then I get up, put on my contacts, brush my teeth, do my skincare, etc.

Have you ever felt genuine fulfillment? When?

I worked a string of jobs that were really tough on me mentally. I decided to take a job working with high schoolers who were aspiring actors. Seeing how passionate they were about art and theater was the most fulfilling experience of my life. They changed my whole perspective on the industry as a whole.

What is your most repetitive, negative thought?

My body is disgusting; my arms are too big, my stomach can be smaller, etc.

What is your most repetitive, positive thought?

I am capable. What is meant for me won’t pass me by.

What is one thing that surprised you about adulthood?

That no one really has it figured out. Everyone is experiencing life for the first time, and we’re all just making it up as we go.

What are three things you want to put every woman onto?

1. Sunscreen on face AND neck. Every. Single. Day.

2. Saying ‘No’ more often.

3. Reading! There are so many books out there. If you don’t like reading, you just haven’t found the right book.

Rank the following from most to least important:

money, food, sex, love, and laughter (feel free to explain or don’t).

Laughter, love, money, sex, food.

How has your relationship with your parents/ guardians changed in adulthood?

I’m very fortunate that I’ve always had a great relationship with my parents. But when I went to college and then moved back home because of COVID, I felt as though we became more like friends. Especially after moving out, I feel like I have an even greater appreciation for them. Getting to spend time with them is such a treat and we catch up like old friends. Every now and then, I’ll still ask them about something that reaffirms the parent/daughter status (ex. did my dentist charge me correctly for this filling?), but I’ll also send my Dad pictures of fire trucks I see and send my Mom the Wordle every day. We have a really great relationship, and I don’t take it for granted.

When do you feel most like yourself?

When I’m around my friends. I’ve had the same friends since high school; they’ve seen my highest and lowest highs. I never feel like I have to be a different person or change my personality to make them more comfortable. I can just be myself, and they accept me as that.

What is the best compliment someone has ever given you?

That I’m good at my job. My job is so subjective so when multiple people from different shows tell you you’re good at what you do, it truly means something.

How do you feel about falling in love?

I love it. I know everyone hates it when you say, “It’ll happen when you least expect it,” but it truly happened when I wasn’t expecting it. In my opinion, falling in love is easy, but maintaining your love is difficult. You have to be ready to give 100% to this person and be prepared to voice when you can’t. The person I’m with now is the person I’m going to marry. I fall in love with him more and more every day.

What is one thing you’re sick of hearing?

“Have you tried Weight Watchers?”

I go to an Endocrinologist who refuses to admit I have PCOS. Whenever I go to her, she tells me I need to lose weight and go on Weight Watchers. I work out daily and eat well, but the weight won’t come off because of my hormones. I’m not even that overweight, but it just drives me insane. I always become someone I don’t like before I see her, trying to eat differently/starve myself, and work out more a few weeks before my appointment in hopes that this time she tells me I won’t need Weight Watchers. I probably should get a new doctor. A physician shouldn’t cause me this much stress.

How often do you feel alone?

Not a lot, thankfully. Especially since I met my boyfriend. Even if I feel alone, I know he’ll always sit by my side. I like being alone when it’s on my terms. Earlier this summer, I took a job in another state. I did everything by myself for four weeks besides work. I’m comfortable being alone, but not for that long of a time!

What is one thing you hope everyone experiences in their lifetime?

Falling in love! There isn’t anything like it. And hitting your career goals.

What is one thing you hope no one has to experience in their lifetime?

The death of a pet. I lost my fur baby suddenly in December of last year after losing a family pet a few months earlier. Grief is not linear at all. I’m still processing it. It’s just a hole in your heart, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fill it.

What is the best decision you’ve ever made?

To sit down and watch a really weird Jim Henson movie with a group of people. It’s how I met my boyfriend.

When do you feel most at ease?

When I’m at home, feet up, in my comfy, with a book, phone face down and somewhere I can’t reach it.

What does having a successful life mean to you?

I used to think success was defined by career milestones. I was successful if I obtained this position or hit this work goal by the time I was this age. But my industry is so different from what I originally perceived it to be, and I don’t want how I judge my success to be based entirely on my career. That is my way of saying that a successful life for me is one that is filled with love, friends, and family, with a roof over my head and good food in my stomach.

How often do you think about your body?

Too often! Every minute of every day. Especially when it’s that time of the month, I feel that I’ve been super hard on myself and my appearance recently because I’m not working out as much due to this job. It’s frustrating because it occupies so much brain space, and I don’t know how to manage it.

When do you ask for help?

All the time! And that’s okay!!!! I also ask lots of questions. And that’s okay too!!

What is something you feel strongly about?

Boneless wings are chicken nuggets. I don’t know why I feel so strongly about this. I just do!

Also, everyone should register to vote!

BONUS: Tell me something good.

I just signed my first Broadway contract!
